Le Grand-Bornand: between an authentic village and a ski resort

Le Grand-Bornand is a human-scale resort nestled in the Aravis massif, in Haute-Savoie, between Annecy, Chamonix and Geneva. It's made up of two distinct areas: Le Grand-Bornand Village, the historic heart of the resort at around 950 metres, with its narrow streets, its church with an onion-domed bell tower and its shops; and Le Chinaillon, a mountain hamlet at 1,300 metres, the main starting point for the alpine ski slopes, about 6 km from the village.

Summer or winter, camping in Le Grand-Bornand means enjoying an unspoilt mountain setting, between alpine pastures, the Aravis peaks and resort life.

Winter camping: enjoy the slopes without leaving your vehicle

In winter, several campsites in Le Grand-Bornand offer winter camping pitches (“caravaneige”), designed for motorhomes and caravans in the cold season: mains electricity to heat your vehicle, heated sanitary blocks, and sometimes ski lockers or a shuttle to the slopes. An affordable alternative to resort rentals, right by the lifts of the village or Le Chinaillon.

The Le Grand-Bornand ski area

The Le Grand-Bornand ski area spans several dozen kilometres of pistes, accessible from both the village and Le Chinaillon, with a north/south exposure that favours good snow cover. Freestyle fans will find plenty to enjoy at the snowpark in the Maroly sector, while the Vallée du Bouchet, at the foot of Le Chinaillon, is the home of cross-country skiing and regularly hosts Biathlon World Cup stages.

What accommodation is available at campsites in Le Grand-Bornand?

Campsites in the resort offer several types of accommodation: pitches for tents, caravans and motorhomes, mobile homes and chalets equipped for winter, and sometimes gypsy caravans or unusual stays. Some sites have an indoor, heated pool open in both summer and winter, as well as heated sanitary facilities and services designed for the cold season (sauna, Nordic bath, ski lockers...).

Le Grand-Bornand Village or Chinaillon: which area to choose for camping?

The choice mainly depends on the atmosphere you're after. Le Grand-Bornand Village offers direct access to the shops, the church and the bustle of the town, with the Rosay and Joyère gondolas taking you up to the ski area. Le Chinaillon, closer to the pistes and snow fronts (Charmieux, Floria, Mulaterie), appeals to skiers who want to minimise travel time, in a setting of century-old chalets and alpine pastures.

Summer in Le Grand-Bornand: hiking and fresh mountain air

Outside the ski season, the Aravis massif is ideal for hiking, with trails accessible from the village or Le Chinaillon leading up to the surrounding alpine pastures and peaks, including the Pointe Percée, the massif's highest point. A great way to enjoy camping here all year round, amid mountains, fresh air and village life.
